 Pregnancy and maternity

We have an experienced community midwife attached to Wye Surgery. She will be assigned to you throughout your pregnancy providing full ante-natal care and advice. Wherever possible, she will also be involved in your labour and baby’s delivery.

6 weeks after baby is born, your GP will carry out a post-natal examination of you and your child (we’ll remind you to book this after the birth). To make an appointment please contact our reception.

Our Travel Clinic is available to both registered and non-registered patients, and there may be a charge to cover the cost of some vaccines and administration. We are also a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre.

Travel advice and vaccinations
We offer advice on:

  • What vaccinations you need based on your destinations and type of travel; a computer system called Travax enables us to devise a vaccination schedule that is personal to you
  • Disease prevention – for example, malaria, water-borne diseases, endemic diseases, AIDS and hepatitis B.

Please come to our Travel Clinic at least 6 weeks before your departure from the UK, as some vaccines must be given well in advance.

If, you are travelling at short notice and our Travel Clinic is fully booked, you will be offered a private appointment.

To find out more or make an appointment please contact our reception.

Travel insurance and medical costs
Your entitlement to medical care while overseas will vary based on the country you are going to. You may have to pay for it, so it is advisable to take out travel insurance which covers medical bills and the cost of repatriation.

European Health Insurance Card
If you’re a UK resident going to a European Economic Area, apply online for a European Health Insurance Card (E-HIC, formerly known as the E111) before you go. Applications can take up to 3 weeks to process depending how you apply.

The EHIC will help you access any state-provided necessary medical treatment due to either an accident or illness within the European Economic Area (EEA). The EHIC entitles the holder to state-provided medical treatment within the country they are visiting and the service provided will be the same as received by a person covered by the country’s ‘insured’ medical scheme.
