 Cervical smears
Monday to Friday morning or
afternoon

A smear test is a simple and usually painless examination to check the health of a woman’s cervix (the entrance to the womb).  We recommend  every woman who is or has been sexually active have regular smears:
Age 25-50:  every 3 years
Age 51-65:  every 5 years

The test only takes a few minutes, and it could be a life saver. By detecting pre-cancerous cells, a smear test can cut the risk of cancer by up to 91%. If you are anxious or embarrassed about the personal nature of this procedure we can help you to overcome this. We also offer a chaperone service should you need it.

We use a computerised system that will automatically remind you when your smear is due. When you receive this, please make an appointment with the GP or practise nurse of your choice. The Health Authority will notify you of your smear result.

To find out more about having a cervical smear, please see your GP or contact our reception.

 Cryotherapy
Monday
afternoons
2.30 - 3.30

At Wye Surgery we often use Cryotherapy (or Cryosurgery) to treat common skin conditions like warts, moles, skin tags and Solar keratoses (sun spots).

It involves applying extreme cold (usually liquid nitrogenn also known as dry ice) to the skin to freeze the affects cells, which after a time, then die away or drop off. Several treatments may be needed to resolve certain conditions.

The treatment is very quick, often lasting less than a minute. Any subsequent discomfort can be managed with painkillers, but for more severe conditions a local anaesthetic may also be given.

To find out if cryotherapy can help you, please speak to your GP or contact our reception for more information.
