 | | About appointments | If you want to see a GP, nurse or other medical practitioner at Wye Surgery you will need an appointment first. You can make appointments by phone or by coming into reception. There may be different numbers to ring depending what type of appointment or information you need. These are shown in the sections below. You can see the GP of your choice. But for continuity of care we strongly recommend that, where possible, you see the same doctor in relation to a specific problem or course of treatment. Urgent appointments If you are ill and urgently need to be seen, please phone soon after 8.30 and ask for a same day appointment. Each day we reserve some slots for urgent cases and make every effort to ensure you are seen by a duty GP or practise nurse (this may not be your usual practitioner). Routine appointments Ideally, please phone between 10 am and 5 pm. Our lines are usually very busy between 8.30 am and 10 am dealing with urgent calls, so if you do ring then our lines are more likely to be engaged than at other times of day. Appointment protocol - Appointments last for 10 minutes
- Usually there is only enough time to address one problem per appointment
- For a longer appointment, please ask when you book
- Appointments are for one person’s health (but you are welcome to have someone accompany you)
- Please tell us in good time if you can’t keep your appointment, so we can offer your slot to someone else
- We always try to keep to time, but with some appointments this is not always possible; if we are running late our receptionist will apologise and keep you informed.

 | | Home visits Ring before 10.30am Monday-Friday 01233 812419 | Home visits are intended only for patients who are seriously ill, terminally ill, bed bound or too frail or ill to come into the surgery, in which case your GP may decide to visit you at home. Please note, lack of transport isn’t a reason for a home visit. Making an appointment for a home visit Most home visits are done in the middle of the day, so ideally please ring before 10.30 in the morning to ask for an appointment. Our receptionist will ask you for the patient’s full name, address and telephone number and the reason for the visit. This information will help our GPs in planning and prioritising their home visits. Top |
 | | Contacting our medical staff | Our medical staff won't be available to take phone calls when they are seeing patients at the surgery, running clinics or doing home visits. So, if your call goes through to their voicemail please leave your name, phone number and brief message. They will call you back as soon as they are free. Alternatively, to find out more or to make an appointment please contact our reception. Top |
 | | Out of hours service 01233 812414 Wye surgery NHS Direct (dedicated line) 01634 897115 | This is only available outside our normal surgery hours, for those occasions when you need a doctor or nurse and can’t wait until Wye Surgery next opens. If you ring us out of hours, your call will automatically be passed through to NHS Direct and SEH (South East Health), who care for our patients while we are closed. They employ experienced nurses and doctors who will assess your needs and provide the most appropriate medical care. If a doctor or nurse comes to see you, it will be someone from this ‘Out of hours service’ (not from Wye Surgery). They ensure that details about your care or telephone consultation are passed back to us for your records. Please use this service thoughtfully – they don’t have access to your medical records and can only deal with urgent problems. Top |
